Dead Animal Removal Sydney

A dead animal smell only stops once the carcass is found and removed. We trace the smell to the roof void, wall cavity or subfloor, remove the animal, and treat the area so the odour and any flies or mites are dealt with. Most jobs are located and resolved in a single visit.

We locate the source of the odour, remove the animal from roof voids, wall cavities or subfloors, then sanitise and deodorise the area. If rodents were the cause, we'll also advise on how they got in so it doesn't happen again.

The short answer

How do you get rid of a dead animal smell in the house?

A dead animal in a roof, wall cavity or subfloor is located by odour tracing, removed hygienically, then the area is sanitised and deodorised. Left alone, the smell in Sydney's warm months can last weeks and attract blowflies and maggots.

    Remove

Good to know

Common questions

How much does dead animal removal cost?

You get a fixed, upfront price before we start, based on where the animal is (roof void, wall cavity or subfloor) and how hard it is to reach. Sanitising and deodorising are included, so there are no surprise extras.

How fast can you come out?

Book before 4pm and a technician can usually be with you the same day anywhere in Sydney, from Rhodes and Concord to the North Shore, the Inner West, the Eastern Suburbs, Parramatta, Penrith and Liverpool.

What animals do you remove?

Mostly rats, mice, possums and birds that have died in roof voids, wall cavities, chimneys or under floors. If rodents were the cause, we also show you how they got in so it does not happen again.

Do I need to be home?

Ideally yes, so we can follow the smell with you and access the roof manhole or subfloor. If you cannot be there, we can arrange key access and send photos of the removal and the cleaned area.

How long does the smell last if I do nothing?

Weeks to months depending on the animal's size and the weather, and flies and stains often follow. Removal plus sanitising resolves it immediately.

What if you can't reach the carcass?

We're equipped for tight roof voids and subfloors. In the rare case a cavity truly can't be accessed, we treat and deodorise the area so the breakdown is fast and odour-free.

Will the council remove a dead animal from my property?

No. Sydney councils collect dead animals from public land and local roads, not from private property, and that includes your roof, walls and subfloor. Inner West Council, for example, says it cannot collect deceased animals from private property. Animals on state roads go to Transport for NSW on 131 700.

Do you remove dead possums from roofs and walls?

Yes, it is one of our most common jobs. A possum is far bigger than a rat, so the smell is stronger and can last for weeks. We remove it, sanitise and deodorise the area, and show you the gap it used, because a dead possum usually means the roof is open to live ones too.

Is it safe to remove a dead rat myself?

If it is out in the open, yes with care: wear disposable gloves, double-bag it, put it in the general waste bin and wash your hands. Inside a roof, wall or subfloor it is different. The fluids, flies and maggots left behind keep the smell going, and that is the part we clean up properly.
